I look at you and what I see I can’t recognize,
Who have you become?
What happened to your dreams?
What happened to our hopes?
What happened to the aspirations you had?
What happened to your smile?
What happened to you? They asked,
“My psyche is battered”, I said,
Like dough slapped, punched and beaten by the baker,
Like a rock weathered by time.

You speak and pain reflects,
What happened to you?
What happened to your innocence?
What happened to your resolve?
What happened to your inner peace?
What happened to that happy soul we used to know?
These they asked me when they saw me,
All I could say was,
Life Happened.
