Today as I stood at the bank trying to do a bank transaction, I came across a program on CNN which was talking about an impending climate change and the adverse effects that it could cause to our environment if unchecked.
So what is climate change?
Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns. Climate change can also be referred to as a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions (i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events).
What can cause this climate changes?
Some of the various causes of climate change include:

  • Biotic processes,
  • Variations in solar radiation received by Earth,
  • Plate tectonics,
  • Volcanic eruptions.
  • Certain human activities have also been identified as significant causes of recent climate change aka “global warming”. This is often referred to as “Anthropogenic causes of global warming”.

Back when I was in the university as part of the requirements to receive a degree in Zoology, we were required to do a course called “Environmental biology”. The major topics talked about was global warming, climate change and pollution. Anthropogenic causes (man made) of these things seem to be on a high rise. This is the emission of various green house gases which includes Carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide, methane, ozone and also the losing our forests. The gases are emitted due to the use of generator sets, from cars, industrial air emission, coal burning etc. Together these greenhouse gases form a greenhouse effect as the name suggests surrounds the earth then increasing the surface heat as they trap the heat within the earth then causing a global form of warming.

So how do they affect us?
Apart from the obvious which is the polluted air and affecting our breathing. In China smog has polluted the air so bad that people have to wear face masks to prevent inhaling the smog.
Also the heating of the earth surface apart from increasing surface earth temperature and affecting weather patterns would cause the melting of the arctic ice caps thus increasing the water levels. This increase in water levels can cause flooding, as the temperature rises. According to a CNN new report concerning the recent rise in temperature and how any 4 degree rice in Temperature would increase water levels. Thus submerging many cities and leaving a lot of people homeless.”effects of rising temperatures “.

We have been told climate change pollution is all bad but how do we solve this? Studies have shown that Trees and plant life absorb these greenhouse gases and help purify the air. So there is our answers go green, the future depends on it.Please for the sake of the future let us try to “Protect Our Environment” by going green, let us plant a tree today save the future. PS today is my birthday and I hope to plant tree to thank the earth for accommodating me for twenty something years,

I round up this post by asking this,” are a part of the solution or part of the problem? “
